Using one of the largest insectaries in the country, researchers in Baltimore are trying to find ways to combat malaria. Thursday marks World Malaria Day, and in 2022, the disease infected 242 million people. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is breeding mosquitoes in its insectary to study the disease. About 600,000 people, mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa, died in 2022 as a result of malaria, most of them under the age of 5.
