When we were young, our nightmares were so frequent that we prayed every night that we wouldn't have any. Our most recent dreams of the corridors and doors have been more direct than our dreams have ever been. In one, the doors labeled with some of favorite "escapes" like book titles. It was such an aha moment to realize the dream is about us trying to escape trauma with dissociation via different means...and failing since the monsters kept coming. In another, the monster chasing me was literally my father. Very on the nose subconscious. I should have realized that, but also, thank you. Facing those things (after years of prep work in therapy) has robbed them of their ability to haunt our dreams.
