In this video, learn how to make plates, slants, and liquid culture for mushroom cultivation & preservation with North Spore’s head mycologist, Jon Carver! He’ll show you how to prepare three different types of media typically found in mycological settings. This includes MYA (malt, yeast, agar), PDA (potato, dextrose, agar) and media for liquid culture. Included in the video are recipes for agar preparation and liquid culture media.

These are simple, universal recipes that can be expanded on depending on the application. Although we shot this video in the North Spore lab, many of these techniques can be adapted to home or low-tech environments.
