Introductory Remarks- NPAF Story Slam 2023

 Published On Jan 26, 2024

Story-telling is at the heart of patient advocacy and our mission here at NPAF. With Story Slam, NPAF is proud to amplify patient voices. This year's storytellers are patients, advocates and professionals who shared their unique journeys, all with a focus on trust.

All of our stories are unique. They are also universal. Do you have a personal story or experience as a caregiver for a loved one that inspires you to make a larger impact? Visit our website today to learn more about the work of our advocates and how you can get involved in patient advocacy.

Rita Charon is an internist and literary scholar at Columbia University in New York. She is one of the founders of the field of narrative medicine. Dr. Charon chairs the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics at Columbia’s medical school and directs many narrative medicine projects throughout the university.

Dr. Charon delivers introductory remarks to this year’s story slam, explaining the value of patient narratives in medicine and offering insights into improved patient-provider communication.
