This week's online history presentation features three young San Francisco historians: the winners of the 2020 Fracchia Prize. This past week we co-hosted, with the Mayor's office, the Fracchia Prize award ceremony on Zoom. Mayor Breed attended the ceremony, congratulated each of the winners, and expressed appreciation for the San Francisco Historical Society's ongoing work in education.
This year's writing challenge was to create a walking tour of a portion of Golden Gate Park in honor of the park's 150th anniversary. The tours were to include the history of the park itself as well as the history of each stop along the way. The three winners submitted thoughtful, well-researched tours that revealed deep appreciation for Golden Gate Park as an invaluable outdoor resource for the city of San Francisco. Early in 2021 we plan to make the walks available to the public as brochures and mobile apps.
