I grew up in the church with my dad being a pastor. This being said, I was not allowed to listen to a lot of different types of music, especially ones that reference the taboo place of "hell". Regardless of this, I was always a rebellious child that often questioned the teachings in church. This made me a bit of an outsider to the world that my family was so heavily involved in. The one thing that kept me going every Sunday was playing drums in our church's band.

Years later (2023), I was in a jam session with my fellow musician Matt Lacey when he started playing the chords to "maybe hell is a better place?". We then had a 'freestyle' session, where I made up lyrics on the spot. I immediately sang the line "maybe hell is a better place" and I made him stop playing, saying "that's a song".

The idea of hell being a better place than the reality you were currently in, was a funny thought, but very relatable at the same time. The thought of everything being worse that your current situation is often something that we battle with. This song serves as a reminder to fight another day. Life is worth living, so don't waste all of your pride in one place. - Micah Emrich
