Dr. Troy Doucet delivers the second installment of our compelling series, "Triggered," drawing inspiration from John 11:17-50. Through four insightful points, he explores how John's account of Lazarus' resurrection triggers the plot to execute Jesus and its relevance to us.

Point 1: In our waiting, will we be triggered or will we trust, will we be filled with frustration or with faith?

Dr. Doucet begins by examining Jesus' deliberate delay in responding to Lazarus' illness, highlighting his choice to wait until Lazarus had been dead for four days. This calculated action challenges Martha and us to confront our triggered responses, emphasizing that our faith can and should transcend our desire for immediate solutions. Instead of focusing on what Jesus can do for us, we do well to recognize who he is in our lives and trust God.

Point 2: Take God to that place of pain, because whatever you continue to hide will not heal.

Jesus' response to Lazarus' death illustrates the need to confront buried pain. By instructing, "Take me to where you have buried him," Jesus urges us to expose our hidden struggles. Dr. Doucet underscores that this story isn't just about physical resurrection but also about reviving aspects of our lives that have died. Bringing God into these hidden places allows for healing and restoration.

Point 3: When God resurrects you to a new life –be sure to let go of the old one.

As Lazarus emerges from the tomb, Jesus commands the witnesses to "unbind him from those grave clothes." This symbolizes the necessity of shedding old habits and beliefs that hinder our spiritual growth. Dr. Doucet emphasizes that even amid our own resurrection victories, we may still be restrained by remnants of our old lives. Letting go of these "grave clothes" is essential for embracing the new life God has resurrected within us.

Point 4: People in positions of power are often triggered when they face the possibility of losing it.

Examining the Pharisees' reaction to Lazarus' resurrection, Dr. Doucet explores the psychological and sociopolitical dynamics at play. The Pharisees' fear of losing authority and resistance to change highlight common triggers faced by those in positions of power. Dr. Doucet challenges us to resist similar triggers, embracing the transformative work of God even in times of change and uncertainty.

In conclusion, Dr. Doucet encourages us to trust in God's transformative power, confront hidden pain, let go of the past, and resist triggers that hinder spiritual growth. Through these insights, we can navigate challenges with faith and embrace the new life God offers us.
