3/21 update: I got sick and lost my voice this week so I wasn't able to shoot a video, but I'm hoping I'll be better in time to shoot one for next Wednesday! Thanks so much to anyone who has been watching these lil song vids I post weekly, I can't wait to get back to being able to share them w/you again!! 💛💛💛
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between survival and creation lately. I’ve flickered between these two human modes my whole life but have only started to notice the vast difference between them in the last few years. When I’m creating (both music and my life) I feel fully awake. My heart opens and I find myself existing in a state of playful curiosity instead of trying to control outcomes. But something inevitably knocks me down and I have to remember how to find my way back to that place over and over. There's always a gut-wrenching moment where I don't think I can, but I'm starting to realize that it's a vital part of the whole deal. It's the grasping before the trust fall. I wrote this song about how it feels to be in the dark those last few seconds before the light breaks again. It always does, though. Keep going. 💛

Lyrics:

She polished every piece of silverware
straightened all the kitchen chairs
saying “I’m so close, but I’m not there yet.”
She gets her grief to hide behind
napkin rings and vacuum lines
He’s not coming home, but the table’s all set
Sometimes life is such a disaster
and until we find the peace that we’re after

Oh, we all cope
Everybody’s got their ways
I know I’ve got mine

At the back of Monday’s matinee
there’s a man with failure on his face
saying “I’m so close, it’s like a joke now.”
He’s got a ticket stub in his suit
for each dead-end job interview
like he’s collecting reasons for laughing out loud
You know any minute, things could get better
but for now we’ll hold our pieces together

Oh, we all cope
Everybody’s got their ways
I know I’ve got mine
Oh, the blinds are closed
You’re doing anything it takes
to get you through tonight
We all need hope
and until we’re there
we cope

We’re just seconds from sunrise
We’re holding on through dark skies
Until we feel that light
We all cope

Oh, the blinds are closed
You’re doing anything it takes
to get you through tonight
We all need hope
and until we’re there
we cope

She polished every piece of silverware
straightened all the kitchen chairs
saying “I’m so close, but I’m not there yet.”
