Hello folks! I want to show you an interesting and funny restoration on the eve of the New Year. This, as usual, was delivered to me by my friend, he is of course a fan of jokes. But in the end I got a useful and very good tool. A small hammer, most likely from the 19th century, of an interesting shape and with a good weight for fitting parts to the scabbard especially. The light weight and short handle, which I turned on a lathe, does not allow damage to the thin wooden scabbard. I am always glad to have a new tool.

First, I cut off the old handle, by the way, the wood smelled interesting, it looked old from the outside, but not inside, but dry and greasy. If you know what kind of wood write. I put the hammer itself in a rust remover, then neutralized the acid effect and switched to hand sanding.
I also tempered this hammer because it seemed to me that the metal was somehow soft. The hardening took place in heated oil.

I removed off the hardened dirt and rust with a file, then I cleaned the surface with an iron brush and proceeded to sanding with sandpaper. I didn't try to achieve a brilliant effect on a working tool - I don't see the point in that.

I carved the handle out of hornbeam wood on a wood lathe. The handle was made short and the wedge for the hammer was made of wood and glue. As usual, I conducted a test for you!
Thank you all and Happy New Year! I wish you all the best, health, success and good mood!

Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
